Shweebe (sh-wee-be hehe)

A personalized experience set by a content creator’s schedule - Shweebe allows their fans and followers to talk with them 1:1 via video chat at a price that you set. This was a side project I collabed on with friends and enjoyed the process so much.

WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO SOLVE

Create a streaming platform where unique creators/artists can offer scheduled personalized sessions based on niche interests.

RESEARCH

Creating a new product required a lot of research so we decided to base it on a few key components to start:

  • Who are Shweebe’s competitors?

  • Who is our content creator?

  • What information do they need to include on their personal page?

  • Who are their “fans” and what does their journey look like to the checkout page?

  • After completing a checkout - what happens after that? What is the exchange between the content creator and the fan?

Competitive research started with Youtube or Facebook video and at a high-level they would be comparable in the sense that they offer video hosting, as well as hosting sessions live. LUMA offers video hosting tools for trainings for larger institutions such as for corporate or education. Twilio also offers a video product that provides a 1:1 experience, but lacks in a scheduling tool where content creators can pick and choose what days/time work best for their own schedule. The goal is to keep personalization in mind for both the content creator and their fan(s).

Our ideal user type would be described as a niche content creator or artist that wants to host live video sessions based on a topic of their choosing on specific days/time that best fits their schedule. An example would be a welder who makes metal art and has a How to Get Started 101 session where fans can learn the basics in art welding at a price that the content creator sets.

We thought about the “checkout” process from a fan’s perspective - beginning to end. Once the fan is on the creator’s page and selects a session to purchase, what happens after that? How can we avoid users from going backwards? If they do want to go back, what is the reason and how easy is it for them to do so? Once a customer checks out, what information do they expect to see on a confirmation page? These questions allowed us to look into specific behaviors and pages rather than platform use.

PLAN & DESIGN
We started from the content creator’s perspective. At first we planned to have a flow where users would walk through a Setup Wizard where each page they would fill out user information, password, social media handles, color selection for page personalization, etc.

We decided to then remove this flow for now as it creates a block for creators to quickly sign up and explore the platform. As a new product, we want users easily create an account without going through a long set up process to explore the platform first.

Because the process to create a personal page is manually done on Shweebe’s end - we did not put in much effort into moving forward with customization options for the profile but below is another option where after creators sign into their account, they can update their Styles through a fly-out panel on the left. This option remains incomplete.

The public facing landing page we planned for minimal customization to start with. A header image, profile image, preferred brand color, and social icons to promote other platforms.

Below is the initial wireframe.

With small adjustments with the card layout in mind, we ended up with the following.

The components of a session card including the following key information:

  • Header image for individual cards for visual appeal

  • Main Title and short description about the session

  • Price set by the content creator

  • Header image for individual cards for visual appeal

  • Main Title and short description about the session

  • Price set by the content creator

  • Length of session

  • How many “slots” are available - this allows to limit the number of fans within a session and while promoting a sense of urgency to sign up for a session

Customer’s Journey

Once we tried to map this out from a content creator’s experience, what does their fan’s experience look like? What happens after they click on Sign Up?

Since Shweebe promotes a schedule based on the content creators preference, we found an open source calendar tool that allows to block off specific dates/times. The fan should be able to easily select a day and time slot that works best for their own schedule as well.

This page also provides the same session details as on the initial landing page to remind the fan what session they have selected.

With “going backwards” in mind - we also wanted to plan for a customer who may accidentally clicked on a session but meant to go back to select a different option so we added in a GO BACK CTA instead of assuming the fan will click the Back button in their browser.

Once a date and time is confirmed we now move forward with a checkout page. Initially we thought it would be important to provide some personal information from the fan, as well as payment information however we decided to simplify the checkout process and focus on completing the transaction.

Once the customer has completed the checkout, there is key information to include such as:

  • A short thank you message to confirm their purchase.

  • Reminder of what session the fan purchased and the date/time

  • An option to add the event to their calendar

  • And any important transactional information such as order number, payment, or how to get in contact if there is an issue.

TESTING & FEEDBACK

We are still currently very much in the testing and feedback phase. So far the process of scheduling with fans is a manual process of sending an invite through Google Calendar.

One thing mentioned from a creator’s perspective is that they would also like to include a small “bio” or “about me” section to personalize their page a bit further.

REFINE & THE FUTURE

There are a few other things we would like to add to this product such as:

  • In-app video hosting and recording

  • Streamline the customization of a creator’s page
